In 18th century Massachusetts town militia companies fell under the command of a larger Regiment.  Historically, the 6th Middlesex Regiment was composed of militia companies from several northern Middlesex county towns.  It is this regiment that we recreate for modern events such as parades, reenactments and country fairs.  The recreated regiment, like the original, gathers groups of local minute and militia companies to participate as a single, larger group.  Our period of interest focuses on the year 1775, encompassing the months immediately before the start of the American War for Independence on April 19th, and the start of the Siege of Boston.

The group was formed in 1999 by combining the efforts of the Dunstable Minutemen and the Westford Colonial Minutemen.  It provides a means for independent units from local towns to increase participation, widen the number of event opportunities, and expand the membership's understanding and interpretation of the people of late 18th century Massachusetts.  The Dunstable Minutemen, which was founded in 1997, has since adopted the name of the 6th Middlesex Regiment.
